Logroño, Spain

Synopsis

One end of the site lies within the narrow streets of Logroño’s old quarter, adjacent to the Santa María de Palacio church. The other end opens onto the banks of the Ebro River. To minimize its impact on the historic district, the project limits its height to align with the church’s cornice, paying respect to it. Rising gradually, it reaches its maximum height toward the river. Given the plot’s strategic location at one of Logroño’s main entrances—where the Camino de Santiago crosses the Ebro and traverses the city—the project takes the opportunity to integrate an ascending promenade within its volume, inviting everyone to reach the roof. After climbing the stepped roof gardens to the highest point, one can see the city from above and the lands beyond the river, and the pilgrims, mindful of where they came from, can glimpse where they are headed.
